Whatzit?

.

Mount some bright magazine pictures of various unusual, interesting objects on sheets of colored construction paper.
Make one per student.
Display them on the bulletin board.

On  recipe cards, type brief, factual descriptions of the objects, without naming them.
Place the cards in an envelope taped to a lower corner of the board.
Caption the board Whatzit?

Tell students that they are responsible for taking a card at random from the envelope, reading it carefully and matching it to one of the pictured objects sometime during the day.

Direct each child to sign the back of his or her card and pin the description beneath the chosen picture.
When all cards have been posted, gather the children near the board and have them check for discrepancies.

Make changes as needed and note which children need further help with reading comprehension.
